Elevating African cichlid fish as a scientific model of social disorders

(University of Houston) With social disorders, like autism, people suffer from an inability to respond to social cues. Interestingly, African Cichlid fish are excellent at responding to social cues, building social structures within minutes. A UH researcher is linking the two together, examining the genes and cells of the fish to learn more about social dysfunction.
